Cholesterol is like ear wax. It's greasy and it looks awful. It sticks and stays on the walls of a cavity; not in the ear but in the blood vessels. But while ear wax lubricates the ears, cholesterol is different.
The significance of cholesterol
It's not cholesterol itself that damages the health of your blood vessels; on the contrary in fact. If you compare your body to a house, then cholesterol forms all of the insulating material of the electrical wiring. No nerve pathways in the body can work if they are not sufficiently separated. If this house has many rooms, just like we have many body cells, cholesterol ensures that all of those spaces can be occupied separately. It seems to be a construction material that supports the structure of all body cells. Every cell can be a cell, if its external wall has been given plenty of good solid bulk.
Cholesterol 'fills' your kitchen with basic resources to prepare your food. There is no nutritious meal without flour, oil or herbs. No life-supporting hormones without cholesterol. No adrenal gland hormones, no bile which in turn plays a role in the processing of fat. No production of vitamin D.
Daily quantity of cholesterol
To facilitate all that work and all of those functions, of course requires a certain amount of cholesterol in your body. Your liver and intestines regulate this. Your liver is a cholesterol-producing factory, which produces more cholesterol than you would ingest with one egg. Your dietary intake really only contributes a limited amount to ultimate amounts of cholesterol.
If you feast on a meal with many cholesterol ‘packages’, be aware that your body notices this straight away. And it will take action. Your own cholesterol factory in the liver temporarily stops its machines. You will not get ‘too much’ quickly.
