Sometimes you think you are on the right track, but you still feel the need to get insight into your eating behaviour in a simple way. When you would like to know the number of calories you eat during a day, you can use an eating schedule or diary. This can be done in a Bullet Journal of with an App.
Keep track of your eating behaviour
Measuring or assessing what you eat is a clever thing to do, as a healthy diet starts by being aware of what you eat. It is important that you enjoy keeping a list of all your choices and that it does not take up too much time. You can keep a diary on paper, for example in a Bullet Journal. Such a journal is not just a clever thing to use at work, but for your entire health! What is your goal after a certain period of time, and how are you going to deal with it per day or per week? By taking 5 minutes a day for one week to write down what you eat on a daily basis, you can immediately see where you can start to eat healthier or less.
Another way to 'track' your eating behaviour is by using an App or programme that is scientifically substantiated. An example is the Eetmeter of the Voedingscentrum (Nutrition Centre). You can enter everything you eat, and the App calculates the nutritional value of what you eat during a day. Another option is the Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker of MyFitnessPal. Despite the large database of food products, you can also add products yourself. The Eetmeter and the Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker are aimed at exercise, so the calories you use are taken into account. The Apps My Diet Diary and MyCalorieCoach are taking it a step further. My Diet Diary also gives an overview of the amount of water you drink, and both Apps focus on vitamins and minerals. Lastly, the Fatsecret App has many options. Besides keeping track of your diet and activities, you can also find recipes.
Keeping a diary is one thing, but it is also advisable to plan ahead. By doing groceries once a week based on a weekly schedule, you already win some time and you will be less tempted to eat without really thinking about it. This will be good for your eating diary. Don't forget to include your snacks, and try to make your meals as varied as possible. A weekly schedule does not mean that you have to fall into the same routine every single week.
There are so many calorie trackers, so we have just selected a few of them to make it easier for you. Of course, you can choose to keep a paper diary but when you do this, it is important to add a good indication of the amounts, the preparation of the food, and other details as well.
