9 food products that stabilise your blood pressure

Postdate: 21 March 2018

A high blood pressure increases the chance of cardiovascular diseases. If your blood pressure is too high, you can adjust your eating habits for a better balance. You will be surprised which food products will lower your blood pressure.

1. Apples
So common yet so effective. It is true: an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

2. Onions and garlic
No one will argue that these food products are unhealthy. Besides that, they are a blessing for people with high blood pressure. You should eat the onion raw. In a salad, for example. When you cook or fry them, the effect is lost.

3. Blueberries
Amazing small fruits for a healthy blood pressure.

4. Dark chocolate
With a high cocoa content. Besides bringing down your blood pressure, you should also enjoy the great taste. So choose chocolate with a cocoa content of 70-80%.

5. Beetroot juice
So effective that it should be at the top of the list.

6. Seaweed
A few grams of dried wakame will lower the systolic blood pressure with, on average, 14 points.

7. Salmon and sardines
Not just because of the omega-3 fats, but also because they have a vasodilatory effect (widening of the blood vessels). A widening of the blood vessel means that the blood can flow across a larger blood vessel surface. This lowers the blood pressure.

8. Nuts
Just as with fish, they cause a larger production of nitrate oxide inside the blood vessels. This is an effective vasodilator.

9. Linseed
A few tablespoons per day and you eat one of the most powerful food products that lower the blood pressure.

In general, a diet based on fruits and vegetables is the best way to lower your blood pressure. The good thing about a limited meat consumption is that it not only gives you a healthy blood pressure, but it has many other bonus benefits at the same time: it will give you extra protection against excessive weight and heart diseases.
