6 ways to start the day actively

Is coffee the first thing on your mind in the early morning? This is not the only way to wake up. Stimulate your morning routine in a natural way, so you will be productive for the rest of the day.

1. Get up a bit earlier than you normally do
Many successful people start their day early – very early. 4:30 a.m. may be a bit exaggerated, but try to get up half an hour earlier than your usual time. This will allow you to start the day more relaxed with some time for yourself and, for example, time for a short walk or a fresh shower.

2. Make your bed
Making your bed will increase your productivity during the day. Don't make a mess out of it, but take your time. That is also the most important lesson by Admiral McRaven. ‘If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.’

3. Make sure you have a fresh breath
Do you brush your teeth after breakfast, or before? There are different opinions about what the best option is. Some dentists advise waiting 30 minutes to an hour because of the acid that sticks to your teeth from, for example, orange juice or fruits.

4. Don't check your phone during the first hour
The first thing we often do when we get up is checking social media. You will already get some sort of stress response as soon as you see the first emails or messages. Not exactly a refreshing start of your day. So, for just a moment longer, let your electronic devices for what they are.

5. Drink water
Drink a glass of water to kick off your digestion. Some people firmly believe in a glass of lukewarm water with lemon, but just water is also fine.

6. Eat a healthy breakfast
One of the most important things in the morning is a healthy and filling breakfast. This should contain a combination of proteins and grains. You can choose low-fat yoghurt or quark, fresh fruit, and oats.

Naturally, there are many other ways, but the message is the same: with a morning routine, you have more time to think about and start off the day relaxed. Thirty minutes per day can be enough. Try to add a new way to your routine every week, and you are on your way to a happier and healthier life.
